In standard PERC solar cells, a passivation layer is used on the rear side of the cell. This layer has small holes to allow for electrical interconnection via wires. However, the passivation is compromised in the areas where the contacts are made, which puts a limit on the highest possible efficiency that can be achieved by the module.
